Lighting the IoT and Smart City, FiberHome Experts Take Key Positions in ITU-T SG20
"Recently, the first meeting of the seminar on the new phase of ITU-T SG20 was held in Dubai, UAE, which attracted global attention from ITU-T major member countries. About 190 experts from 34 countries, including China, the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Italy, South Korea, Japan, France, and Germany attended the meeting and made statements.
Two workgroups and seven topics of the new research phase from 2017 to 2020 of SG20 have been decided in the meeting. The workgroup WP1 was assigned four topics: Q1 network and infrastructure, Q2 needs and capabilities, Q3 systems and protocols, and Q4 services and applications. The workgroup WP2 was assigned three topics: Q5 glossaries and new technologies, Q6 security and identification, and Q7 smart city evaluation.
In this meeting, 27 Chinese representatives from multiple companies and organizations, such as FiberHome, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, and Wuhan University, submitted 42 drafts. Multiple Chinese experts take key positions in SG20 workgroups and research groups. Li Keng, the chief engineer of the strategy and marketing department of FiberHome, was recommended as a joint reporter of Q7. This is the first time a Chinese representative takes the position of joint reporter in SG20.
This meeting also set up a data processing and management focus group (FG). To push the development of IoT and smart city standards in developing countries, the workgroups for Africa, Arabia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Latin America were also set up.
In recent years, FiberHome actively promoted smart city and IoT technologies in China, and made impressive achievements in smart city design, smart city evaluation, ICT structure for smart city, smart manufacture, smart medical, smart education, smart communities, smart transportation, safe city, smart sensor and smart city cloud platform. Thanks to the contribution of FiberHome in the smart city and IoT standard drafting, Dr. Sang Ziqin, a professor at the State Key Laboratory of FiberHome, was recommended as the vice president of SG20 and co-chairman of WP2."
