FiberHome’s All-Optical Computing Metropolitan Area Network Lights Up Chile’s Digital Future
Based on Chile’s National Digital Transformation Strategy 2035, the country is pressing ahead with nationwide upgrades to all-optical infrastructure. As the core hub of Chile’s digital economy, Santiago stands as a critical pivot for such infrastructure transformation. To speed up the high-quality advancement of local digital infrastructure, Mundo, a leading local telecom operator in Chile, has completed a large-scale metropolitan network upgrade across Santiago. By commercially deploying FiberHome’s native OXC all-optical cross-connect and new-generation intelligent OTN integrated solution, Mundo has constructed Latin America’s leading all-optical computing MAN , injecting robust momentum into the high-quality development of Chile’s digital infrastructure.
Bottlenecks in Legacy Networks Call for Architectural Innovation
Driven by booming services including enterprise cloud migration, computing interconnection, cross-border digital trade and ultra-high-definition video, Santiago is confronted with rising requirements for network bandwidth, transmission latency, flexible resource scheduling and cross-domain bearing capacity. Stretching in a long narrow north-south terrain, Chile has a national backbone transmission network exceeding 4,000 kilometers. Such unique geographic features further expose inherent drawbacks of conventional networking: slow service provisioning, cumbersome capacity expansion, low utilization of equipment room resources and unstable long-distance transmission, which fail to satisfy evolving demands of emerging digital businesses. Against this backdrop, Mundo joined hands with FiberHome to launch full-scale all-optical network renovation.
Customized All-Optical Solution Tailored for Chile’s Networking Scenarios
To address challenges including ultra-long-distance cross-country transmission, multi-service concurrent bearing in metropolitan areas and seamless upgrade of legacy networks, FiberHome developed a localized customized all-optical solution centered on the FONST 5000 X32 OXC core platform.
Breaking wiring constraints of discrete traditional ROADM networking, the solution remodels machine room construction with an innovative fully fiber-less integrated optical backplane architecture, shortening construction cycles and drastically accelerating service activation from the engineering perspective. Equipped with a 32-degree high-capacity all-optical cross-connect core supporting native smooth C+L band expansion, the equipment delivers a single-slot unidirectional bandwidth of 64 Tbps and a total full-configuration cross-connect capacity up to 2048 Tbps, reliably accommodating large-granularity services such as computing interconnection and premium enterprise private lines.
Tailored to Chile’s special long-haul transmission geography, integrated optical amplification and advanced dispersion tolerance technologies are adopted to extend repeater-free transmission distance and guarantee reliable nationwide backbone transmission. In addition, the solution features native compatibility with the operator’s in-service OTN equipment and various narrow & broadband services, enabling phased and zonal network renovation.
