Commercialization process speeds up again! Hubei Telecom and FiberHome completed the 50G-PON network pilot project.
Recently, China Telecom Hubei Branch, China Telecom Research Institute, and FiberHome completed the service pilot in Wuhan Telecom under the coexistence scenario of 50G-PON and 10G-EPON in the existing network, which centered on the application scenarios such as IPTV, HD camera, cloud desktop, VR/AR, etc., and verified the practical application of the 50G-PON system for various types of high-bandwidth services and the coexistence access capability of 50G-PON ONU and 10G-EPON ONU (symmetric/asymmetric) in the existing network. 10G-EPON ONU (symmetric/asymmetric) coexistence access capability was verified. Pilot results show that FiberHome's 50G-PON system not only supports multi-generation coexistence, but also meets the demand for ultra-high bandwidth and ultra-low latency of various emerging digital applications.
With the rapid development of the digital economy, a variety of emerging digital applications such as office on the cloud, VR/AR, 8K UHD video, etc. are rapidly emerging. In order to support the future development of emerging digital applications and promote the digital transformation and upgrading of various industries, major domestic operators are carrying out 50G-PON technology research and testing. 50G-PON drives 10 Gigabit to the home and enterprise
FiberHome's 50G-PON ONU reached 18Gbps/42.2Gbps uplink/downlink service throughput in China Academy of Telecommunications Laboratory test, which can meet the ultra-large bandwidth application scenarios of Cloud VR, meta-universe, digital twin and other applications where there exists massive data interaction. Meanwhile, 50G-PON significantly reduces latency and jitter through technologies such as fractional burst frame, dedicated activation wavelength, optimization of DBA algorithm, and integrated scheduling of resources, which can effectively satisfy time-sensitive application scenarios such as intelligent manufacturing and telemedicine. With ultra-high bandwidth and ultra-low latency, 50G-PON empowers application scenarios such as home and governmental enterprises with 10 Gigabit access capability, and enhances the overall digitization level of society.
Enabling Smooth Network Evolution and Upgrade for Operators
The present network verifies FiberHome's 50G-PON system's ability to coexist with multi-generation technologies, which can facilitate the smooth upgrade of the old ODN network stock to 10 Gigabit capacity, thus reducing the cost of network upgrading, protecting the existing investment, enabling the future network to upgrade to the 50G-PON smooth evolution, and accelerating the arrival of the 10 Gigabit era.
